Peristera is the desert island closest to Alonissos. It is an area of 16 sq. km located in parallel with the east coastline of Alonissos. Despite its small size, there are quite a few great beaches like the bays Kokkalias, Kefali, Peristeri, Kounoupas, Livadakia, Kalamakia, Vasiliko, Tarsanades, Ksylo and Spasmeni.
The island is uninhabited; however, there are two shepherd settlements in Mnimata and Livadakia areas. Peristera island belongs to Zone B of the Alonissos Park, which means there are no special rules regarding the protection of the area.
